Dignity Project

Associate Ministries | Dignity Project

DIGNITY PROJECT - Our goal is to saturate entire communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by helping church members become Disciple-Makers. Included are the most vulnerable people in the community – Widows and Orphans. As the church develops under the leadership of trained pastors the church is empowered to minister to the entire community by helping widows to cultivate a viable vegetable garden whilehelping to care for orphans assigned to them by the Pastor. HBM provides the vegetable seed, cultivation tools, watering can and teach them to make compost.

The testimony of Mama Rolinga warms our hearts and we want to share it with our supporters: “I was scratching in trash cans to try and find food after my husband died. As a widow with no one to help me I had to beg for everything. The pastor of our church asked me to look after four street children after he told me that the church was going to give some widows a chance to work in a garden to grow food for them and the children. Now after eight months of growing food and bartering for some things we need the children are doing well and I have my dignity as good member of society back”.

Zambia has many dignity projects operating in several districts. As the Church Planting-Disciple making ministry grows so must the work with "widows and orphans". We are reminded by James that "pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world."

Isoka Dignity Project: In the newly formed Muchinga Province this dignity project was started in Isoka by HBM Districdt Leader Simon Mulenga. Pastor Simon is himself an orphan. In 2010 he saw the need in Isoka for the Gospel of Jesus and relocated his family there to plant churches and disciple other men to be pastors. In the process he also observed the great need of the orphans and little children. To date Pastor Simon has planted FOUR churches and is training 20 other pastors. He also began a pre-school teaching 26 little children the basics of their official language English and preparing them for regular schooling. He also established an orphanage that is meeting the needs of 50 children. The local, district and national governments have recognized this godly man's work and has been very co-operative in helping to promote this ministry.  HBM Zambia Dignity Project is sponsoring a chicken rearing project with Simon.

Luce Orphanage: In the Northern Province in Mbala over 200 children are schooled and fed once per day because that is all they are able to produce in their gardens. Most of these children are "double" orphans having lost both parents to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Mazabuka: The Lord has provided a large piece of property to HBMZ in Mazabuka to develop into a self-sustaining farm and training center. God has led the Paalman Family, MercyforAfrica, to partner with HBMZambia and HBM USA. The old school and property has been turned into a farmstead where new innovative farming methods are being practiced. The Paalmans coordinate closely with the local HBMZ District Leader, Michael Mufaya. The goal is to train HBMZ pastors and locals in better farming methods.
