Dewald and Linda van den Berg founded Evangelical Rural Mission 15 years ago with the call of working in the most remote areas of the African continent. Dewald has undertaken many exploratory trips (some in excess of 3 months in duration) into areas where no missionary activities are recorded, such as the Congo Rain Forest. We have mapped the routs to three Pygmy tribes for the very first time, while also mapping out 1,200 miles of river access into this "roadless" expanse. Totally unreached peoples have been introduced to Christ as a result of Dewald walking up to 230 miles into the forest to minister to them.
Linda runs their office and leads the Children Harvest program which focuses on training local church members (mothers) to teach children Bible truths through story-telling (the best way in an oral culture). Literally thousands of children hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ on a weekly basis through local women who are equipped through the Children Harvest Program.
