The Calling that has developed into what is today known as Hope Builders Ministries and the Hub Strategy (and all the projects running) came in 1984 from 2 Timothy 2:2 to four men working with Open Doors in Southern Africa. Project Timothy's response was to start by addressing the acute shortage of pastors in Mozambique. The civil war going on in Mozambique had impoverished the country to the “poorest country in the world” status and pastors had been targeted because they were seen as having “control over people" who were seen as potential fighters in one of the armies.
Project Timothy later became the Timothy Training Institute as it grew into an independent ministry in 1990, which spread to all the countries we are active in today. The program has been adjusted to accommodate the needs of the constituency that we have been called to serve – the “bush” of rural Africa where virtually nobody (besides very few “preaching points that the “missionary” gets to once in 3 to 6 months) is providing the training and “tools” for the indigenous leaders to EFFECTIVELY reach their own people for Christ.
In 2001 Hope Builders was established in the US to partner with the indigenous works particularly to help with providing support for the ministry to continue as the projects grew.
Hope Builders has planted just over 7,000 village churches, in eight African countries since 2001. We have enrolled a pastoral leader for each of these churches into a three-year diploma course which has produced 2,700 graduates (over and above the 13,000 students served between 1985 and 2001 by Timothy Training Institute).
Bibles, bicycles, motor cycles, evangelism bandannas, Jesus Film kits, thousands of study modules, vegetable seed and garden tools are some of the gifts referred to as "TOOLS" provided by our donors who partner with us to serve thousands of people who are hungry for the WORD.
Through our Bibles for Believers program more than 100,000 Bibles have been distributed to church members (mostly) to those in the Discipleship classes.
We entered a new phase in January 2011 when we were able to expand on US staffing and going into 3 new West African countries, in partnership with Africa for Jesus, to deploy the Hub Strategy towards rapidly growing an indigenous, multiplying local church to reach many for Christ.
We are excited to partner with you if your vision is to reach as many people as possible in the shortest time!
